Biliteracy Recognition Program

This is a new program for students in grades 3-8 who want to begin learning a world language in addition to English. This is a voluntary program that aims to honor and affirm students' home languages and culture and to encourage a study of languages toward becoming multilingual. Successful completion of this program as a middle schooler will prepare the student for working toward the State Seal of Biliteracy, as a high school student (more information below).

There are three pathway options depending on the grade, interest and purpose of the student. Please see the informational handouts below. If you are interested in registering for the program, please let your HST know and contact the Director of School Support at schoolsupport@pacificcoastacademy.org.

“Bilingualism is an incredible gift to give to a child. It goes beyond just learning another language. It broadens mental development, thought patterns, and world perspective.”

State Seal of Biliteracy

The state seal of biliteracy is an award given to graduating seniors who have proven fluency in one or more languages, in addition to English. It is marked by a gold seal on the student's high school diploma. For more information, contact the Director of School Support or your High School Counselor. Please view the State Seal of Biliteracy Parent Flyer.

MLAC

The Multilingual Learners Advisory Committee (MLAC)’s purpose is to advise and provide input on issues pertaining to English Learners (EL's) and the school’s formal plans. It is also a great way to foster a better involvement so that working together, parents and staff can increase the academic achievement of our EL population. For questions about the MLAC committee, please contact the Director of School Support at schoolsupport@pacificcoastacademy.org.
